Ranferon is a combination of Iron, folic acid and and vitamin B12-commonly known as cyanocobalamin. It is often prescribed during pregnancy as that is a period of high demand where the developing fetus use iron from the mother leading to deficiency.
Folic acid-Folic acid is a type of B vitamin that is normally found in foods such as dried beans, peas, lentils, oranges, whole-wheat products, liver, asparagus, beets, broccoli, and spinach.
- Folic acid helps your body produce and maintain new cells, and also helps prevent changes to DNA that may lead to cancer.
- As a medication, folic acid is used to treat folic acid deficiency and certain types of anemia (lack of red blood cells) caused by folic acid deficiency.
- Folic acid is sometimes used in combination with other medications to treat pernicious (Pernicious anemia occurs when your body can’t absorb enough vitamin B-12 to function properly), aplastic (Aplastic anemia is a condition that occurs when your body stops producing enough new blood cells), or normocytic anemia ( It means you have normal-sized red blood cells, but you have a low number of them). Folic acid is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby, and your dose needs may even increase while you are pregnant. Talk to your doctor about taking folic acid during pregnancy. Your dose needs may also be different if you are breast-feeding a baby. Ask your doctor about taking folic acid if you are breast-feeding.
Iron-Iron is important for many functions in the body, especially for the transport of oxygen in the blood. It is used to treat iron deficiencies and iron deficiency anemia (low red blood cells).
Vitamin B12-Vitamin B12 is important for growth, cell reproduction, blood formation, and protein and tissue synthesis.Vitamin B12 is used to treat vitamin B12 deficiency in people with pernicious anemia and other conditions.
