Description
INDICATION AND DOSAGE
Avelox Moxifloxacin IV is a sterile intravenous antibiotic used in adults for the treatment of infections of the lungs, airways and sinuses such as sinusitis, pneumonia, and secondary infections in chronic bronchitis. Avelox Moxifloxacin IV can also be used to treat severe and complicated skin and skin structure infections, and complicated infections within the abdomen as well as for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis (pinkeye).
Avelox IV contains the active ingredient, moxifloxacin, which is an antibiotic belonging to a group of medicines called fluoroquinolones. These antibiotics work by killing the bacteria that are causing your infection.
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE
This depends on your condition, and will be prescribed by your doctor. The usual adult dose is 400mg once a day for 7-14 days.
Avelox IV is given as a slow injection into a vein, over a period of 60 minutes (‘drip’). Avelox IV must only be given by a doctor or a nurse.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
The medication is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. A physician consultation is highly recommended in such cases.
