Spirulina is a product that contains a number of nutrients, including B vitamins, beta-carotene (a precursor of vitamin A), and vitamin E. Spirulina also contains antioxidants, minerals, and is commonly used as a source of vegan protein. Spirulina is said to help with the following health problems; Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, cancer, fatigue, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and viral infections. Other benefits include weight loss, increased energy release, and stimulation of the immune system.

Mental disorders

Spirulina can be used as an aid for various mental and emotional disorders, including anxiety, stress, depression and attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).


Some evidence suggests that spirulina has anti-cancer properties. Research in animals indicates that it can reduce cancer occurrence and tumor size. Spirulina’s effects on cancer of the mouth have been particularly well studied. However, this should not be a substitution for medicines prescribed by a doctor.

High cholesterol

Spirulina has exhibited cholesterol-lowering ability and could be used in people with high cholesterol. If you have a thyroid condition, an autoimmune disorder, gout, kidney stones, phenylketonuria (PKU), or are pregnant or nursing, spirulina may not be appropriate for you.
