Flagyl 400mg tablets contain metronidazole, a nitroimidazole antimicrobial effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. It is commonly used in the treatment of gastrointestinal, gynecological, dental, and systemic infections, especially those involving anaerobic organisms. Flagyl is prescription-only and should be used under medical supervision.
Indications
Flagyl is indicated for the treatment of:

Anaerobic bacterial infections (intra-abdominal, pelvic, brain abscesses)

Bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis

Giardiasis and amebiasis

Helicobacter pylori eradication (as part of combination therapy)

Dental infections

Surgical prophylaxis in anaerobic contamination risk
Dosage and Administration
Dosage must be determined by a healthcare professional.

Adults (typical oral dose):

400–800 mg 2–3 times daily, depending on infection

For anaerobic infections: 400mg every 8 hours for 7–10 days

For trichomoniasis: 2g single dose or 400mg twice daily for 5–7 days

Children: Dose adjusted by weight and indication

Take with food to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort

Do not consume alcohol during treatment and for 48 hours after
Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to metronidazole or nitroimidazole derivatives

First trimester of pregnancy (unless clearly necessary)

Severe hepatic impairment (dose adjustment may be required)
Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed, particularly avoided in the first trimester
